[OpenLayers-Users] IE6 requests FORMAT=image/GIF - solved

Does anyone know how to deal with the png transparency in IE6 with 
WMS-requests? If I set overlay layer to transparent (transparent:true), 
it isn't transparent in IE6. I know I can add alpha:true which makes 
pngs' transparent also in IE6, but it makes the service to be extremely 
slow. On the other hand, setting format to image/gif won't help.
I am using OL 2.6 and the wms-server is Geoserver.
