[OpenLayers-Users] getting the scale of a map

Dear Friends,

I am trying to get the scale of a map at PageLoad i.e when the map is
loading 
for the first time.
When the map is fully loaded I see the scale is 1:3M.
I want to get this data thru' code i.e 3000000.

But when I write the following code in the same function I get different
number

var sc = map.getScale();
Similar problem with

var sc = map.getResolution();
