[OpenLayers-Users] How to select feature from code?

For the record:

I've realized that

SelectFeature.select(feature)

is the proper way of selecting feature from the code but you have to use 
developement version of OpenLayers, as version 2.8 doesn't call 
necessary handlers in 'select' method.
