[OpenLayers-Users] Markers layer not working in mobile map app

I am using the latest svn trunk version of OpenLayers (2.11pre revision
11888) to develop a mobile map application. Everything works fine so far,
but taps on my markers aren't triggered, so the marker popups don't show up.
I could reproduce this behaviour by testing the marker layer example (
http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/markers.html) both on my iPhone 3GS (iOS
4.3) and my Samsung Galaxy Tab (Froyo).

I noticed that the jquery mobile example uses vector features instead of
markers for showing POIs.

Does this imply that I have to switch to vector features to get my POIs
working?
