[OpenLayers-Users] Testing connection to OpenLayers

Hi

I'm new to OpenLayers, and I'm trying to find a way of testing a users
connection to the server(something like True=can connect, False=no
connection).

Is there a way (using OpenLayers) to test if the user can connect to the
Google, Yahoo, etc maps?
