[OpenLayers-Users] OpenLayers.Layer.Vector.setVisibility(true/false)

I use OpenLayers-2.11-rc1. A problem appeared with setVisibility() function
but only inside OpenLayers.Layer.Vector class. It doesn't work there. I am
getting the information: setVisibility is not a function?!

Why is it so? And, what can I do, now?

If I just change the setVisibility property in a way:
my_vector_layer.setVisibility = false;

... the layer will still be visible?!

Could somebody help?
