I found this post that sort of describes the same issue..

Using GmapV3 as base layer of own WMS

I feel as if in a Catch 22 situation seems you can addlayers and then later
addlayers again...I can't add my layers at once as I need the extent and x y
to make the dynamic tiles to make my wms layer.

Beginning to think I can't use this...anyone? Please
