Hey Phil and others,

thanks for your reply. Actually, I don't know if Zoomify is the best way to
go for me. I don't have much experience with OL at all. In fact, my first
(unanswered) post to this list how to do it best. I descided to use Zoomify
only because I found an example on the OL page that seemed to fit best.

Probably you have another idea on how to do it using better supported
Layers...

I got some scanned historical maps I want to display as multiple layers plus
one OSM reference base layer where I can switch between layers and stay at
the same geo location. Any ideas? :)
