[OpenLayers-Users] How would I specify different map tile sources for specific zoom leves/resolutions?

I'm creating the start of a mobile app where it would be nice to load the top
zoom levels locally on the mobile device (to load fast and save bandwidth),
then retrieve tiles online for deeper zoom levels (to save a ton of local
storage space).

Current progress based on great OpenLayers mobile dev examples:
