[OpenLayers-Users] white bar at bottom of kamap layer in openlayers

i've been using a kamap layer for my basemap with an old version of
openlayers just fine. 
updating this map, i've started to use the new version of openlayers now and
i'm having an issue with the kamap layer. the map loads fine but there will
be a white bar at the bottom, this shows up on loading and zooming in and
out. if the map is panned at all the white space disappears and the map
looks fine.  this same thing can be seen on the kamap example at
http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/kamap.html (even though those tiles arent
loading)
do kamap layers just not work correctly in the newer openlayers?
