Hi Aridbh,

   Take a look at the following example :
http://dev.openlayers.org/releases/OpenLayers-2.12/examples/symbolizers-fill-stroke-graphic.html

   The center label label is clickable because it uses the 
labelSelect:true symbolizer set in the rules.  This could be a good 
start to look at.
