Is your newly added feature selected? Because if so, those points could be the vertices of the selected feature.

Mark, the geojson feature is a simple polygon made of one part only.

considering a multipolygon is built up of a number of polygon objects
which are build up of linear ring objects which are build up of
several point objects i'd say yes.
