[osgeo4w-dev] Cygwin as future of OSGeo4W?

Hi there,

I totally understand that Norbert has other priorities than
keeping OSGeo4W up to date.

Has anyone ever tried to build QGIS under Cygwin and check how
it performs there? Perhaps the performance is pretty equal to
the native builds.

Many things like Python, ogr & other basic packages are regularly
updated there or they're very easy to build.

Doing so might save the maintainer(s) of OSGeo4W a lot of time.
