I'm enjoying to see that GISVM is pushing programmers... ;-)

Ok, I see your point.
But we don't want to have a crash on a Demo either...
Believe me, I have made Demos and customer presentations for some years and it is best avoided!

Also, I must state that one of the biggest success of GISVM are Workshops and ClassRooms!
All the users (Professors) pointed out that one of the main value of GISVM is that it didn't CRASH (like they usually do on Windows!)

I would prefer that GISVM could maintain the message for:
a) users: "GISVM / Live Demo - Stable as a Rock!"
b) programmers: "make it stable if you like to see it included on GISVM / Live Demo"

But this is only my personal opinion...


Relating to uDIG,

Well, I must state that I'm personally using uDIG on my job (on a filed work + tablet PC + BeeGIS).
And have some personal experience on using it on the real world...
New version (1.2) has great features, but is it really stable?

If it helps I could remove the stable version from the download page; the large number of years between the stable version and the current release represents the community being distracted from making releases :-(

Sorry, I didn't know about these guidelines and they surely make sense 
for the use case of the GISVM. However, in the case of the a LiveDVD for 
FOSS4G I think, things are a bit different. It's more a showcase or a 
demo. Still usually the better choice is a stable version, but if a 
project is close to release a major milestone (which as far as I 
understand Geoserver is), they might like to show off the cool new features.

It seems that we go anyway for the stable version of Geoserver. In the 
case of uDig however, Jody Garnett asked me to install an unstable 
version (1.2-M6). You think that would be problem?
