Hi,

I have been looking at reviving the top-bar menu.

they seem to have been following Gnome's lead and simplifying
things until they are not useful, the best I can figure out
right now is to add a new _Launcher_ to the task bar, named
"Geospatial", Icon=arramagong wombat road sign (or maybe more
obvious the osgeo logo?) as a passive icon; Command: same but
replace %u with "Desktop", and in the advanced tab tick the
"show label not icon" box.

then add spacers (vertical dots) either side of the word
"Geospatial" and pack them to the left end next to the unlabeled
(?!@$!?) "Start" button in the top left.

also I would think it useful to add a second workspace in the
top right overview by default, and make the bottom OSX-like
launcher bar always visible (and fix the gimp's broken icon).
*[Icon=gnome-gimp]
terminal icon is now in the bottom OSX-panel; we should replace
the unobvious planet+curson icon with the Firefox icon there.
another todo: fix the cpugraph in the top-right menu bar.

grumble, random changes to things that used to work well under
the guise (hope?) of someone's idea of progress,
Hamish
