It is true that most demos will require a working Internet connection.

On top of that, some demos will use AJAX (XHR) requests that can only 
work with a proxy script. OpenLayers comes with such a proxy script that 
we can use.

Pretty much as much confidence as the online OpenLayers examples page 
(provided that we have a working proxy and Internet connection).

I agree and will therefore only make the bare minimum changes to get 
OpenLayers upgraded to 2.11.

Done that (different wording though).

I think that the OpenLayers install script and overview document are 
ready for 5.5. Please review.
