Howard Butler is the person who has packaged libLAS onto OSGeo-Live, as per:
http://live.osgeo.org/en/overview/liblas_overview.html

 From what I can gather from the documentation, I'm guessing python 
bindings are included. Is that right?
Howard might be able to explain better.
