Hi Johan,

As far as I know, OTB is preparing a 5.2 release to support GDAL 2.x and 
ZOO-Project is preparing for a 1.6.0 release too.

Looking at Xenial Launchpad page for GDAL it seems it already pulled 
1.11.2 in the distribution:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+source/gdal
