I've put together a draft 12.0 press release. Please go ahead and edit.

Astrid, are you still ok with sending it out once we agree on it.

Of note, I haven't individually listed the 180+ contributors (partly 
because I'm too lazy to try and work out how to list all contributors), 
and partly because I think it is similar to just say "hundreds of people 
have contributed directly..."
