Good news everyone,

We released Oskari 2.6.0 today and it is now available on GitHub (https://github.com/oskariorg) and Oskari.org Maven repository. The sample application package has been updated on the download link in Oskari.org (https://oskari.org/download) and http://download.osgeo.org/oskari/. As always you can take a peek at the latest release at https://demo.oskari.org/.

This time we have lots of additions for the RPC API/programmatic interaction with embedded maps. We have added support for statistical maps metadata that can be used for example preselecting visualization for indicators based on the data. We also have improvements to search functionality among other things:
Release Notes
oskari-frontend

For a full list of changes see: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-frontend/milestone/34?closed=1

Map module

  * New function: getVectorFeatures() that returns the vector features currently in the map viewport. Takes parameters like geometry and properties to filter the features. Code that shows feature properties in an object data table etc have been refactored to use this function instead. More details: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-frontend/pull/1696
  * New event: DataForMapLocationEvent. The event is used to notify with the result of a map click that is used for rendering the "GetFeatureInfo" style result for the user. Now it's possible to render the result on the embedding page (requires GFI to be enabled on the embedded map).
  * GetFeatureInfoPlugin can now be configured to NOT show the GFI-result. This makes the plugin only trigger the DataForMapLocationEvent and let external code to generate the UI for GFI responses for the user.

RPC/embedded maps

  * The map modules getVectorFeatures() function is available through RPC making it possible to get a list of vector features from WFS/OGC API layers on an embedded map.
  * New option for GFI-tool on publisher to enable GFI without showing the results automatically on the map. Allowing the embedding page to render the result by listening to DataForMapLocationEvent.
  * New request: MetadataSearchRequest to query service metadata through RPC. The result is returned with a new event: MetadataSearchResultEvent. More details: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-frontend/pull/1717
  * getAllLayers() function now also returns the data block from layer attributes. This can include localized names for fields etc. It also includes metadataIdentifier if the layer has one.
  * Enabled more requests to be used via RPC API: RearrangeSelectedMapLayerRequest and ChangeMapLayerStyleRequest.
  * Enabled sending options for SearchRequest. See https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-frontend/pull/1688 for details.
  * The showMeasureOnMap flag now works on StartDrawingRequest when modifying features.

Improved metadata support for statistical maps

  * The UI for showing metadata was refactored from jQuery to React. Also it's now draggable.
  * The UI now shows dates for last and next update for the data if the information is available for given indicator.
  * The style for how data of an indicator should be visualized on the map/classification can now be configured in the metadata (color scheme and choropleth/points style) instead of always defaulting to choropleth.

Other fixes

  * Enabled measurement results for features drawn by users when the draw type is "Box".
  * Improvements for the vector feature style editor.
  * The default search UI for geoportals has been rewritten using React (previously jQuery implementation).
  * Fixed an issue where WMS layer style was not sent in GFI requests resulting in responses for default style instead of the one user was seeing.
  * Most of the restrictions was removed from search UI: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-frontend/pull/1705
  * GFI layerformatters are now available for WFS layers (previously only WMS) for customizing GFI display
  * Fixed an issue where generated layer groups (like for user generated content) were not always shown in layerlisting depending on what bundles the app was using.
  * Fixed an error preventing map layer legend functionality from being shown on the embedded map: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-docs/issues/252
  * Fixed an issue where dashed lines were not triggering click/hover events on the gaps of the line.
  * printout.PrintMapRequest works again -> allows opening the printout UI when the functionality is part of the app.
  * Fix for global legend when a layer has no styles.
  *   Removed unused events/dead code: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-frontend/pull/1690
  * Improvements on the vector feature label handling.
  * Fixed an issue regarding layer opacity in URL/links to the map.
  * Lodash usage reduced (in order to remove it at some point)
  * Added a publisher tool for admins to select instance announcements to be shown on a single embedded map (the one they are publishing/editing with publisher).
  * Added initial implementation for showing React-based popups and flyouts: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-frontend/pull/1680
  * A generic ErrorBoundary component for React was added for oskari-ui/util: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-frontend/pull/1713
  * The layer admin functionality for timeseries layers now cleans up unnecessary config when admin switches the UI options. Previously the "range" UI option could leave the layer in misconfigured state: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-docs/issues/260.
  *   Other smaller fixes

oskari-server

For a full list of changes see: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-server/milestone/35?closed=1

  * Configuration can now be passed with ENV variables to override values in oskari-ext.properties: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-docs/issues/262
  * Removed most restrictions for search queries. Programmatic usage can now request more results than the default limit. Introduced a config to define a hard limit (defaults to 10x default limit https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-server/pull/765).
  * Allowed additional parameters to be passed from frontend to search channels through the common search API. Usage of the additional parameters are documented on the RPC as there's no user interface for these but allows more options for programmatically initiated searches.
  * Changed MVT encoder implementation (for WFS-features as MVT) to fix JTS version mismatch with the library and enable polygon/linestrings features to be encoded as MVT once again.
  *   Statistical indicator metadata improvements:
     * Generic API to allow additional metadata to be passed to frontend for indicators
     * PXWeb specific implementation to allow a JSON-file to be used to provide metadata like localized names and descriptions, start/end years and information about last/next update for data: https://oskari.org/documentation/features/thematicmaps/config
  * Action routes can now be called with a cleaner URL. This is now enabled by server but the frontend still uses the longer URL. More details: https://github.com/oskariorg/oskari-server/pull/767
  *   Updated libraries:
     *   Jetty 9.4.42.v20210604 -> 9.4.44.v20210927
     *   Log4J 2.16.0 -> 2.17.1
     *   Spring 5.3.11 -> 5.3.14
     *   Spring Security 5.5.3 -> 5.6.1
     *   Spring Session 2021.0.3 -> 2021.1.1
     *   Jedis 3.6.3 -> 3.8.0
     *   com.h2database.h2 1.4.199 -> 2.0.206

Happy updating,
     Sami
