Recently The Government Canada published its *Action Plan on Open
Government “* the objective of which is… to foster greater openness and
accountability, to provide Canadians with more opportunities to learn about
and participate in government, to drive innovation and economic
opportunities for all Canadians…”
Learn about the transformative impact of this initiative from a *panel of
subject matter experts from the federal, municipal and private sectors.*
Their insights will focus on the strategic objectives, outcomes,
applications of and challenges associated with the Open Government
initiative. In particular our speakers from Treasury Board of Canada
Secretariat, Human Resources and Skills Development (HRSDC), The City of
Ottawa and a legal expert will explore initiatives relating to Open
Government that:
•Make it easier for citizens to access information;
•Foster innovation by sharing data that may be reused for commercial and
research purposes;
•Empower citizens to engage more directly in the policy making process; and
•Provide a more efficient licensing framework associated with government
published data.
According to a 2011 research conducted by Oxford Economics the size of the
digital economy is estimated at $ 20 trillion which represents
approximately 14% of all goods and services sold worldwide, by far the
fastest growing segment of the global economy. The Open Government
initiative is an important dimension of the broader strategy to empower
businesses to achieve sustainable economic benefits that the digital
economy represents for all Canadians.
