URISA, in partnership with its Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia
Chapters, is pleased to invite you to *GIS-Pro 2016: URISA's 54th Annual
Conference*. The conference will take place October 31-November 3 at the
Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, Ontario.

*Step 1*: Clear your calendar for that week and make sure your passport is
current if you’re coming from outside Canada.

*Step 2*: Go through the conference program <https://gispro2016.sched.org/>
and note the sessions, training and events that will address your current
work challenges.

*Step 3*: Figure out which full or half-day workshop best addresses your
current needs. One workshop is included with full conference registration
(usually an additional $200 fee) and some of the courses are filling
quickly:

   -

   NG9-1-1 and the GIS Workflow
   -

Asset Management: Planning, Strategy and Implementation
   -

   GIS Program Management
   -

   GIS Supporting Community Resiliency
   -

   Cybersecurity Awareness for GIS Professionals
   -

   GIS Capability Maturity Model
   -

   GISP Exam Preparation Workshop
   -

An Overview of Open Source GIS Software

*Step 4*: Put together a justification letter to bring to your boss. We
have a template put together to help facilitate the process. Click here
<http://www.urisa.org/clientuploads/directory/Documents/Conferences/GISPro/employerletter.doc>
for the template.

*Step 5:* Make your travel plans. Toronto is a major airline city with so
many reasonable flights. Our group rate at the Westin Harbour Castle is
only $199CDN (about $150US) and the block is available until September 29:

Online Reservations Form <https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/Book/GIS>

Or call the Reservations Center at 1-800-937-8461 and give the group code
‘GJ29AA’.

*Step 6*: Register
<http://www.urisa.org/education-events/gis-pro-2016-registration/>!

*Some highlights:*

Michael Hughes will be our opening keynote speaker on November 1. He will
discuss “*The Power of Personal Contact: How to Turn 3 Minute Conversations
into Powerful, Productive and Profitable Relationships*”, where we’ll learn
how to maximize every GIS-Pro conference contact – great advice to kick off
the conference!

Breakout sessions are scheduled on November 1-3. Presentations will be
delivered by more than 100 speakers. Each session is detailed within our
online conference app: https://gispro2016.sched.org/

Of course, attendance and participation at GIS-Pro 2016, earns points
toward GIS Professional Certification/Renewal and we are working with the
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and the Ontario
Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) for professional planner credit.

There are luncheon presentations and posters, a Vendor Spark session and
Lightning talks. Networking events from a Young Professionals’ Meetup to
the Conference Social Event at the Hockey Hall of Fame will provide ample
opportunities to expand your professional connections. The annual URISA
awards breakfast will honor GIS Hall of Fame inductees, Exemplary Systems
in Government winners and volunteer superstars. Companies in the exhibit
hall will demonstrate their solutions and Esri's Hands-On Learning Lab will
provide self-directed training tutorials.

The conference will wrap up on Thursday morning with Leslie Woo, Chief
Planning Officer of Metrolinx, who will speak to the key issues that will
shape the cities of the future and the leadership needed to creatively
guide that future. Her closing comments will be followed by URISA’s Annual
Business Meeting and the first Annual General Meeting of GeoAlliance Canada.

*Calling all Students!* URISA’s Vanguard Cabinet is inviting participation
in the GIS-Pro 2016 Student Competition and has opportunities to attend the
conference for free as a student volunteer. Details are online
<https://sites.google.com/site/gispro2016studentcompetition/home> and the
deadline is September 30.

Hope to see you in Toronto!
