[Portugal] ECW em QGIS 1.8 e em Ubuntu 12.04

Boas tardes comunidade!
segui os passos em [1] para poder abrir ECW no QGIS 1.8 instalado em Ubuntu
12.04 32bits. Cheguei ao final, faço /gdalinfo --formats | grep -i ecw/ e
obtenho
  ECW (rw): ERDAS Compressed Wavelets (SDK 3.x)
  JP2ECW (rw+v): ERDAS JPEG2000 (SDK 3.x)

Ou seja, aparentemente tá tudo bem. Mas acontece que o formato ECW não
aparece na lista de formatos suportados no QGIS, Logo não consigo abrir os
ficheiros raster ECW. Está-me a faltar algum passo?
