 Yes, an exception is thrown in LWGEOM2GEOS, but there is also an exception
 in the parser...

 postgis=# BEGIN;
 postgis=# SELECT
 ERROR:  geometry requires more points
 postgis=# SELECT 'some other sql statement';
 ERROR:  current transaction is aborted, commands ignored until end of
 transaction block
