 This implies that a polygon where a portion collapses to a line returns a
 GEOMETRYCOLLECTION of a polygon and line (resultant dimension = 2).  (if
 we observe bullet two)

 Also, a polygon where the whole thing collapses to a line returns ...?
 NULL? An exception that breaks the current transaction block?  A POLYGON
 EMPTY?
