 I don't think we'd want to maintain an additional shared library
 interfacing between the C++ and C.  I was thinking in terms of directly
 contributing patches to GDAL so that we can continue the current paradigm
 of sticking with C and being dependent on GDAL.

 I plan on doing some work the rest of this week on GDALPolygonize to add
 support for floating points and rounding, so that may give me some ideas
 of what needs to be done to extend GDALSimpleImageWarp.  Like you, I've
 never worked on making C bindings from a C++ API.  But if we wait for
 someone to develop it in GDAL, we may be waiting forever at the expense of
 PostGIS Raster.
