 ok, I didn't get that part with the name and subdataset.

 Tested it now, passing the name as dustymugs described above.

 Got back

     ERROR: Unable to read raster file:
 SUBDATASET_2_NAME=GTIFF_DIR:2:myfile.tif

 (same for the first subdataset)
