 I can't test it on Windows at the moment due to #2094, but on Linux the
 problem doesn't occur on r10680 and it did before - that's promising. The
 problem doesn't occur even when using the old functions (from r10237), so
 it's probably #799 that fixed it rather than #310.

 #799 seems to be the built-in version of my function anyway, which is
 great - very happy to see that.
