1. For anyone who likes the idea of git but doesn't like the sound of github, check out sandstorm.io, they claim to have one click setup for several git-related web servers including selfhosted gitlab. May be useful for testing. I have no affiliation.

2. Not relevant for core devs, but for new/younger devs, 'github account as CV' is a  frequently mentioned concept.
