I'm not sure I see how a non-versioned .so file would make things easier.

Say a bug in a plpgsql function is found, affecting all these
versions of PostGIS:

  3.0.0
  3.1.0
  3.2.0

Where do you put your bugfix ? In which upgrade script ?
