Comment(by robe):

 Do we really care about anything else but the proj4 expansion and the
 srid?  I suspect ours got inherited a while back from spatialreference.org
 since that is what it has listed as the authority.  But I agree there
 should definitely be consistency to reduce headaches with people
 transforming using different products.
