 @strk: I tried your test:

  make -C topology check RUNTESTFLAGS='-v --extension --upgrade-path 2.1.2
 --2.2.0dev'

 and it only fails at:

  uninstall .. failed (Object count pre-install (4112) != post-uninstall
 (4113))

 The result is the same with and without the changes in lwgeom_init_backend
 from r12350.

 Which version of postgresql did you use ?
