Comment:

 I think this is 'won't fix'. Obviously the second column isn't a geometry
 column because shape can only have one geometry column at a time. And some
 people will want second columns ignored and others won't, which implies
 Yet More Configuration Flags, which is silly since it's such a minor case:
 if you don't want the column, just ignore it, it's only going to be 256
 bytes long at worst, the most DBF can handle.
