 I thought I had tried this before but perhaps I was mistaken.  Just tried
 again on bessie 32 and seemed to work.

 ./configure --with-projdir=/usr/local --with-libiconv=/usr/local
 }}}



 Still unclear to me why I have to explicitly specify these paths.

 I'll try on bessie as well to confirm.
