[postgis] distance...

Hello all

I think this is a postgis question:

i have defined roads in the database and they are something like this:
                 |3
                 |  
                 | 
                 |
                 | 
-----------------|
1               2|
                 |
                 |4

The points 1 (x,y) and 2 (x,y) defined "road 1" and points 3 (x,y) and
4 (x,y). But what i need to know is the distance between points 1 and
3. Can i do this using postgis functions?
