FWIW What would be REAL NICE would be to have a 
WEB front end to seeing the CVS history

I can HIGHLY reccommed ViewCVS
http://viewcvs.sf.net

ViewCVS installs VERY easily and even does such
things as serving up tarballs of any branch or directory
amongst many other things
