Horst,

now that the patch is committed, it might be
easier to just retrieve the latest CVS version.

However here are the necessary steps to apply the patch:

1. gunzip the file

gunzip patch-shp2pgsql-07july2002.diff.gz

2. patch shp2pgql.c

patch shp2pgsql.c < patch-shp2pgsql-07july2002.diff
