[postgis-users] Spatial operators

Hi everyone.

I have a small question concerning the spatial operators: <<, >> , &> 
and <&.

In the online documentation, I understood that, with these operators, we 
can compare the relative position of two geometries, in a strict or 
overlaping way.

What I would like to ask is what these concepts of 'left' and 'right' 
mean... Is this relative to the X-axis? I ask this because I made some 
tests and that's what I figured out... In this case, are there operators 
that deal with the Y-Axis?
