This makes me think that someone should put together a detailed doc on
building the postgis from scratch for cywindoz machines - the existing (very
helpful) documentation makes some assumptions that the user is somewhat
familiar with source trees, building, and such.

Subject: [postgis-users] install postgis on my machine (windows +
cygwin)

hi list/postgis users

i am a newbie to postgresql and postgis and getting in trouble with
understanding the explanation for the postgis
installation.

i am running cygwin under windows, postgresql is installed properly. that is
probably a silly question (sorry couldn t find it
anywhere else):

the installation guidelines within paul ramsey s postgis manual tell me, i
should copy the postgis.... archive into the
contribution folder of the postgresql source tree. sorry, but where is that?

is that /cygwin/usr/share/postgresql ? if yes, should i create a
contribution directoy?

if not, to which directory should i copy the archive?

any hints/comment?

help is appreciated

cheers georg
