[postgis-users] Companies using PostGIS

"Major" companies? :)

Well, we use it, all the time, as a useful problem solving tool for
consulting problems. It is amazing how useful a general purpose spatial
bit bucket can be when solving large data processing and management
problems.
If you search the email archives, you'll find references to I3 and
Imagelinks, two other companies using PostGIS to handle large data
management problems. I don't think any of us use it on Windows though.
A large number of users make use of PostGIS on Windows, but we don't
have any particular metric. There are also a number of government users
managing substantial data volumes.

As a free software project, our only metric of usage comes from the
list, which is ironic, since the users who simply install it without
troubles and use it without comment are the ones we never hear from.
We are now logging 500 downloads a month, and have 300 people on the
mailing list.
