Brent Wood.
GIS & RDBMS guy for fisheries research at NIWA New Zealand, trying to sell
the organisation on Open Source.
> What are you using PostGIS for?
Not actually using it (yet) but am playing with Postgres/PosGIS under GRASS as
a corporate GIS server, also looking at QGIS, and undrlying mapserver with JUMP
&/or Maplab. Primarily to replace the commercial GIS/mapping tools I use.
> Why did you choose PostGIS?
OS philosophy & preference, functionality, synergy with other OS GIS/mapping
tools to build a fully functional fisheries GIS & map server.
> What makes you happy about your PostGIS installation?
It works, & it works well as the vector data server for other OS GIS packages.
> What makes you unhappy about your PostGIS installation?
It is pretty arcane, although as some of the GUI/GIS front ends mature, this
becomes less relevant. I guess this would be a good place for a wish list :-)
support for storing & querying DEM's (eg: GMT netCDF gridfiles)
repository for users functions etc to download
binary installations, packaged with Postgres, GEOS, * poss summat like QGIS,
etc for major distributions like RedHat & Mandrake
But generally very positive, great product, keep up the good work, your efforts
are appreciated.
