- By day an embedded system design tech
- By night a off-roader needing accurate topographical and street maps
so I can find my way home
> What are you using PostGIS for?
Using PostGIS to supplement functionality of the GPS software I am
currently using. Specifically I am storing references to the maps on my
local drive so I can easily and quickly look-up which maps are pertinent
to the area I am in.
> Why did you choose PostGIS?
Open source and PostgreSQL was the default database for Cygwin, one of
the platforms I was planning on developing under / for.
> What makes you happy about your PostGIS installation?
Fast, and easy to use once you get the hang of it. Saved me a lot of
development time by using an off-the-shelf solution rather than writing
my own.
> What makes you unhappy about your PostGIS installation?
Documentation is a little on the light side, so there is lots of
tinkering required to troubleshoot issues when things don't go exactly
as planned. Some error messages are quite vague and make it difficult at
times to pinpoint the problem. Even so, I've been able to figure
everything out so far without having to call on the mailing list for
help yet!
Hope this helps...
