[postgis-users] Which projection for area function?

I have some Antarctic data stored in a Polar Stereographic projection.

The PostGIS area (area2d) function returns a projection dependent value.

Can anyone suggest which projection (or SRID) is likely to give the "best"
result for the area of near polar polygons?
