[postgis-users] How to assign values to a bimensional array?

Doh.  I meant arrays are 1-based.  Not indexes.

I may be shot on the spot, but I believe that psql indexes are 1-based.  Not
0-based.  Maybe that's your problem? 

Do you get an error or nothing happens?
