[postgis-users] PostGIS and Oracle Comparison

Not at the moment, and the most interesting stuff can never really be
public (performance comparisons). The other danger I have found w/
comparisons is that Oracle relases "checkbox" features quite regularly
that are either very poorly tested and supported or are simply stubs.
For example, the Oracle "topology support" remains, at this date (over a
year since "release") little more than a data model and some very
trivial functions against that model.

Most of the interesting differences require testing to confirm. I have
long had a sneaking suspicion that PostGIS has vastly better query
optimization for complex spatial/attribute queries, but I have never had
the time to verify this. And even if I did, that might constitute a
"benchmark" and not be publishable. :(

The original study the paper you have was based on was a funded study
that took about a month of effort. It also included some private
performance numbers for the clients eyes only. Good comparisons really
do take time and care.
