[postgis-users] raster chip

dear readers,

postgis supports raster objects with the chip spatial data type, 
correct? does anyone have experience using chips to manage large raster 
data? where can i find more information?

i'm interested because we're building an application against large 
raster data and we would like to use postgis. i imagine a query that 
could be used to request an image... the query would include a specific 
area (bounding box or polygon), and a resolution.

does this sound at all possible?
