[postgis-users] extend architecture to manage spaztial data

I'm a new user of this mailing list;
I have to extend the architecture to manage spatial data consistent to the standard openGIS;
In the version 8.1 of Postgre, PostGIS is already integrated in postgre.
I have read the documentation from the postgre site and from the postgis site but I need some api or method for extent architecture provided for postgis.
Is there anyone that can help me?
