[postgis-users] New users FAQ:- Is it necessary to compile and install postgresql

Hi 
  I am new to postgis and postgresql 
 I have a CentOS , machine , with postgresql installed
 when I installed the OS 
    I read the documentation of postgis , in that it
says that I have to compile and install postgresql ,
do I need to do this step since I have already
postgresql running on my machine
