GEOS 3.0.0 RC1 has been released for your gentle consideration.

This release updates the algorithmic basis of GEOS to synchronize
with JTS 1.7. As a result of this update a number of bugs have been
removed and some performance increased. For API-level users of GEOS,
a number of new functions are available.

The update to synchronize with JTS was jointly funded by Safe
Software and Autodesk. Many thanks for their contribution to the
project!

The release also includes experimental improvements to the robustness
of the geometric operators (Union, Difference, SymDifference). These
improvements may be included in a future release of JTS. If you have
been having topology exceptions in your geometry processing, you may
find that upgrading to GEOS 3.0.0 will remove the vast majority of them.

The robustness improvements have been funded by the Bavarian State
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the
State Survey of Bavaria. Many thanks to these organizations and the
citizens of Bavaria!

PostGIS users and other applications that use the "C API" can upgrade
their GEOS simply by running a "./configure ; make ; make install".
The C API remains binary compatible with earlier versions. Users of
the C++ API may have to recompile their applications as well as GEOS
-- the C++ API remains source compatible with earlier versions but
may not be binary compatible.
