[postgis-users] Mapinfo

James,
Ah that's great news. We still use MapInfo around here for some of our
analytic reports so maybe I can finally get rid of some of those shape
dumper jobs I have.

Thanks,
Regina

I saw this article today and I remembered this post from a while ago
that might interest people.

MapInfo v10 will support PostGIS.

James

I just had someone here who has MapInfo 8.5 check. I see it has both
WMS and WFS. He said he'd give it a try later on today or Monday. I am
curious to see how it handles WFS services. the WMS from what I recall
was pretty decent, but you can't really get data aside form getinfo from
WMS calls.

Thanks,
Regina

Oh yes I forgot the WMS WFS route. In older versions of MapInfo I think
like MapInfo 7 - I was able to use a WMS UMN mapserver connection.

In later versions of Map Info I think they introduced WFS, but I have
yet to try that out.

If you want to see spatial data from PostGIS in MapInfo 'directly' from
PostGIS, the only way to do this is to use FME. As stated earlier, it is
read only though.

If you just want to use attribute data then you can access that using a
DBMS connection, but I am guessing you want the spatial data.

One other way which I have heard suggested is to use WMS or WFS to get
your data into MapInfo from PostGIS.

More and more GIS packages are supporting PostGIS so hopefully it will
just be a matter of time before MapInfo adds support.

Are Mapinfo and PostGIS compatible? I've seen a few messages on
MapInfo-L
that sorta imply they work together. Maybe. But there is no support
mentioned on the MapInfo website.
